The mission of the Maricopa County Schoolhouse Foundation -
“Pappas Kids” is based on a strong commitment to the
welfare of the students and families attending the Thomas J.
Pappas Regional Schools.
The Foundation fosters the school mission to provide all students
the opportunity for a positive, safe and caring environment
enriched with a myriad of learning opportunities.
The Thomas J. Pappas Regional Schools are nationally recognized
public schools developed to provide a safe educational environment
for children of homelessness. The stability, uniqueness and
continued growth of the schools enhance its appeal to supporters
throughout the United States. The Pappas Schools have been featured
in USA Today, 60 Minutes, Family Circle, Christian Science Monitor
and the New York Times among many. They have also been fortunate
to have had visits from President George W. Bush and many other
dignitaries. The Pappas support and recognition is verified
by receiving the Phoenix Points of Pride Award.
The depth,
breadth and uniqueness of Pappas Schools define a quality
program with significant differentiating features:
- A Family Outreach Children's Intervention Support Services
Center to assist families in transition.
- Collaborative relationships and partnerships with agencies
in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area.
- A fully licensed medical clinic available to students
Wednesday through Friday.
- Clothing and food available at all times for families
in need.
- Bus transportation throughout Maricopa County to maintain
the only consistency in the life of our students.
- Birthday celebrations for every student held on a monthly
basis.
The Thomas
J. Pappas Schools have been an honored recipient of grants
from the Virginia Piper Foundation and Creative Women of Pinnacle
Peak. These organizations are two examples of the many that
have supported Pappas. The sustained success of our program
relies primarily on the ongoing donations of our supporters.
